Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said that he is willing to work with and support all women groups in the county with the aim of empowering them economically.

Mbugua said that the best way of eradicating poverty in the society is by empowering women economically.

He said a society with economically empowered women has more power to deal with issuing which affect families like famine, diseases, crime, and many other conflicts.

Speaking when he led a harambee in aid of the Molo farmers’ women group on Sunday, Mbugua said that one of his strategies of fighting poverty and unemployment in the county is by empowering women.

He added that his government has directed the county government procurement board to ensure that all tenders that are below Sh 50,000 are given to women groups, youth groups and person living with disabilities.

“Our county has very hardworking and enterprising women who are committed towards transforming the economic lives of their families and I want to assure all women that my government will give them all the necessary support in whatever they do because when the society gets an empowered women workforce then we will be able to deal with the two biggest problems which are unemployment and poverty,” said Mbugua.

He called on women groups to borrow loans from Sacco’s apart from just relying on the government funding which he said is limited.

“I know you have a lot of projects you would want to initiate but you font have enough funds and I want to encourage you to make use of the many loan facilities being offered by Sacco’s because what the government is offering is not enough for thousands of groups countrywide,” he added.
