Njeri stated that PLWD have the constitutional right of being involved in government, as well as having a say in development issues.

The MCA said that time when disabled persons were denied opportunities to take part in development is over, and that the constitution now champions their rights.

“Governor Mbugua must ensure that disabled persons are well represented in his government,” said the MCA.

Njeri also asked the county government to ensure that persons with disability are given tenders as directed by the government.

She said that engaging disabled persons in development will make them feel appreciated and needed as stated in the constitution.

Njeri at the same time asked PLWD to apply for government funds and start small businesses observing that by applying for the funds, they will be able to take part in business and in the process contribute to economic growth.

The MCA urged the county government to also seek the views and opinions of disabled peoples’ representatives before initiating any activity, policy or project.

Njeri said that the county assembly will continue to agitate for the rights of the disabled persons.
