Mbugua said a majority of leaders have squandered money meant for development within their jurisdiction and are now hanging on the county government's development projects.

Speaking in Rongai sub-county on Saturday during a funds drive at Tulwobmoi secondary school Menengai West ward, the governor called on MPs, MCAs and other elected leaders to engage on separate development projects rather than concentrating on county government funded ones.

"All of us are aware that from time immemorial even before the country adopted this devolved system of administration, development was initiated by our MPs and councillors; now called MCAs, I wonder why some of them have all over sudden absconded their responsibilities in the name of counties," he said.

Governor Mbugua called on Nakuru residents to be wary of such leaders and earmark them as 2017 approaches to avoid recycling them.

"We want Nakuru to be a model of development and investment in the region and this can only be achieved having like minded leaders spearheading our agendas," he added.
