Nakuru County Women Representative Mary Mbugua has told Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) to reserve more women leadership positions.
Mbugua said that affirmative action should be observed in the party leadership to ensure that women have an equal platform just as their male counterparts.
Speaking in JAP offices in Nakuru on Thursday when the party’s national officials met Nakuru County officials, Mbugua said that interests of women will only be protected and assured of only if they are among the top decision makers of the party.
“In our country’s history political parties are normally dominated by men and this gives them upper hand when it comes to election time, but JAP should try to play a different game and allow women to take up positions in the party because we want to change how politics are done in this country,” claimed Mbugua.
At the same time she called on fellow women to fight for party positions and stop waiting to be given things on a silver platter.
JAP National Chairman Nelson Dzuya said that JAP as a party recognises role played by women in shaping politics of the country and promised that the party will offer equal opportunity to both men and women and even the youth.
“JAP will not discriminate against anyone based on gender, age, tribe, religion, race or economic status because we are a party which is open to all,” said Dzuya.
