Speaking on Friday during the official opening a milling machine belonging to Kapchamo Women Poverty Eradication Program, Keraito said despite the Constitution allowing 30 per cent of tenders to be given to people with disabilities, the youth and women, the latter have failed to apply for the tenders.

"It's sad that women in the county have not applied for tenders and yet they are at their disposal. They only say that the process is tiresome and difficult, yet they haven't tried. In my ward very few women have applied for tenders," she said.

She said women need to be educated on the process of applying for the tenders, since most of them don't have the know how on what they are supposed to do access them.

"I urge Uasin Gishu County government to come up with a sensitisation programme that will educate women on the importance of the tenders and the entire process, since most women don't know what they are supposed to do," she said.

She urged women in the county to register their groups, saying it's the first step towards accessing the tenders.

She told those awarding tenders not to harass women and instead handle them with care to avoid them being scared.
