Lakeview Ward representative Simon Wanyoike Wanango has accused the National Construction Authority (NCA) of harassing builders in the area.

Wanango, who also chairs the County Assembly's Implementation Committee, proposed that the NCA should set up offices in the grassroots all over county.

“We want them to hold meetings in the rural parts of the county and explain to residents that their actions and levies are not related to the county government. We do not get any revenue from them and hence they should not entangle us in their activities,” said Wanango.

He was speaking to the press at Waterbuck Hotel in Nakuru where he claimed the authority was levying hefty charges to builders in the area.

“The construction of a house worth Sh5 million costs every owner between Sh100,000 and Sh150 000. This is too much,” he said.

The MCA lamented that the NCA had maintained it would only accredit masons who had undergone formal training saying they were disregarding those trained though apprenticeship.

“Most of them are artisans who have learnt through apprenticeship. Some have never stepped into a construction training class hence no formal training. It is unfair to ask them to stop earning their living," he added.
