Galbet MCA Abdirzak Ismail has criticized the move by the county government to evict residents on ring road land.
Mr. Ismail said the government was demolishing structures set up by the residents outside ring road without consulting the county assembly, various stakeholders or holding meetings with the affected residents.
Speaking to the press in Bulla Qubah, Garissa on Saturday after visiting the affected residents, Mr. Ismail said the residents have occupied the land for the past several years and it’s wrong to evict.
The MCA further said that the National lands commission should have been involved in the matter before the government repossesses the land.
“As area MCA I am not aware of the operation the county government is undertaking. This is something that should have been brought to the Assembly for debate and determination.”
“If the government wants to repossess this land then let them involve the stakeholders and owners who have occupied the land for the past several years,” he added.
The MCA had visited the area after a section of residents in Bulla Qubah protested over the planned eviction and destruction of their property.
The angry residents had threatened to lynch the county enforcement officers and askaris if they continued with the destruction of the structures.
The county government had ordered the residents who have encroached into the government land to vacate and pull down their illegal structures.
