Wanyoike Wanango said that the search for burial places has been complicated by traditional myths.

“The county's efforts to buy land for burial has been complicated by residents shying away from selling their land due to traditional beliefs,” said Wanyoike.

Speaking on Tuesday at Naivasha Town during a media briefing, Wanyoike urged the residents to sell their land to county government for the use of cemeteries.

“I appeal to the members of public to consider selling their parcels of land to county government to facilitate the establishment of cemeteries,” said Wanyoike.

Wanango said that the current public cemeteries in Nyoro, Molo, Nakuru and Naivasha are filled and the members of public are finding it difficult in burying their loved ones.

He also questioned the allocation of Sh 8 million that was set for the purchase of cemetery.

“Nakuru County government set aside Sh 8 million for the purchase of a cemetery but no one has any information where the money is,” said the MCA.

Wanango said that audit should be done to ascertain the disappearance of the money.

Naivasha Sub County public health officer Caroline Vata said that more than 16 bodies would be buried in a mass grave after their families abandoned them.

Vata said that the bodies have been laying in the Naivasha District Hospital mortuary for more than six months.
