Athi-River Member of County Assembly Michael Mutua wants the national government to put in place appropriate measures that will address crime across the country.
Addressing journalists at Athi River, the MCA said that the rise in general crime in major towns across the country raises questions.
The MCA asserted that cases of robberies in some towns are of major concern adding that the killing of former Kabete MP George Muchai at the heart of Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) and in the full glare of CCTV was shocking.
“The government must use its resources and networks to deal with criminals and law breakers,” he said.
Mutua noted that crime will remain a hindrance and a scare to investors if not well addressed.
He asked the Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku to implement proper strategies that will hunt down and nail robbers and other criminals.
The MCA further asked Nkaissery to ensure that all surveillance systems installed in major towns across the country are properly working.
He also called for installation of the same in the remote villages where he said crime is prevalent.
The MCA appealed to the national government to share with the counties strategies that will guarantee security.
“County governments should be involved in formulation and implementation of security measures for effective war on crime,” he said.
He further added that security of Kenyans should not be played around with adding that the government has a responsibility to guarantee security of citizens.
