Biashara ward MCA Stephen Kiarie has said he supports a planned demonstration organised by local youth leaders to protest over alleged mishandling of youth agenda in the area.

Speaking to our reporter, Kiarie said that the youth in the constituency were being short-changed in terms of development projects and employment, and should unite to fight for their rights.

Local youth group leaders claim area leaders favour women groups by dishing out development resources to them while neglecting the youth.

“There is some truth in the matter and should be exposed further for the youths to get the attention they deserve. I personally will support them in demanding for their rights,’’ said Kiarie.

He added that he would help in organising and take part in such a demonstration to notify various leaders of the youths’ predicaments.

Kiarie claimed that he had forwarded several proposals for projects aimed at providing employment to the local youths, but the Ward Development Fund committee had not to approve them.

Last week, the Mawanga Youth Agenda leaders led scores of unemployed youths to storm a market project construction site in the area, demanding for employment.

The youth leaders have since petitioned local leaders to react to their demands while planning a demo to attract the attention of the governor and the national government.
