Getrude Mbeyu will fly the ODM party's flag in the Kilifi Women Representative race in the forthcoming general election. Mbeyu, who is current Kibarani MCA, floored her greatest rival Juliet Riziki after she garnered 32,054 votes against Riziki's 28,722 in the exercise that was marred by various challenges. Speaking to journalists in Kibarani, Mbeyu said she is grateful and humbled for clinching the ticket, adding that she will defend the rights of women once she ascends to power in August. She said allegations that her rival had already been given a direct ticket almost made her give up but she kept the faith.“It is by the grace of God that I have won this ticket. There has been a lot of hearsay that my rival Juliet ‘Kachachawa’ had already been handed direct nomination but I had faith in God and today things turned out in my favour,” said Mbeyu as quoted by Baraka FM.She also heaped praise on the incumbent, Aisha Jumwa, for trouncing Malindi MP Willy Mtengo who has since announced that he is likely to back Jubilee aspirant Philip Charo.“As I enjoy my conquest, I want also to congratulate Aisha Jumwa for winning the Malindi MP seat ticket after beating William Mtengo,” said Mbeyu.
