Wamaitha expressed her concern over high charges being levied by the board and wants the project be reverted to THIWASCO to safe guard the residents from exploitation.

Speaking on Saturday at Wamunyu Location in Gutuanyaga Ward, Wamaitha said that turning the project to the THIWASCO would enable the residents to get better service.

“Residents are being overcharged by the board for no reason. “We want the residents to pay less for better services,” said Wamaitha.

The MCA added that the project was meant to benefit the residents and not to exploit them .adding that it should go towards alleviate the perennial problem of water shortage in the area and not serve political interests.

“This is a community project intended to provide water to local residents at affordable rates and it’s unfortunate that politics has been dragged in,” said Wamaitha.

She further accused the board of gross misconduct and unattainable behaviour in service delivery.

However the move was opposed by Bernard Mwangi, a member of the water board who claimed that the area MP Alice Ng'ang'a has pumped over Ksh5 million in the project.

“Reverting the project to THIWASCO would lower the credibility of Wamunyu water project since it would be considered failure on the part of the management,” said Mwangi.

Mwangi called for more cooperation between the MCA and the water board to find a lasting solution to the impasse.
