Athi River MCA Michael Mutua has said there is need to establish more secondary schools in Athi River sub-county in a bid to promote education in the region.
Addressing the press in Athi River town on Monday, Mutua said the existing secondary schools cannot accommodate the increasing number of children in the area.
“As time goes by, population in Athi River sub-county keep on bulging, our children cannot be effectively accommodated in the few public schools we have around,” said Mutua.
Mutua said each of the public primary schools in the sub-county should have its own secondary school established as fast as possible to solve the problem.
He said this will provide opportunities to majority of the children from the region to go through their basic education successfully.
Mutua argued there will be reduced incidences of children dropping out of or failing to join secondary schools due to monetary problems.
He said if each primary school is provided with a secondary school, local education will be promoted arguing school fees will also reduce.
