Kiambu nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Emily Warutere has asked the Kiambu county government to establish rehabilitation centres that will cater for drug addicts.
Addressing youth at Kiambu town on Tuesday, the MCA decried high cases of drug abuse and addiction in the county.
She observed that a section of youth have been lured into drug and substance abuse with many suffering from addiction.
“I appeal to the Kiambu government to establish rehabilitation centres in Kiamaina to help people who have been addicted to drugs,” she said.
Warutere said that drug abuse among youths is a serious concern that needs to be tackled.
She blamed rising drug addiction on unemployment stating that most youths are experimenting with drugs due desperation after lacking jobs.
“The Kiambu government and stakeholders must find solutions to curb drug abuse and unemployment,” said Warutere
The MCA at the same time appealed to county leaders to help sensitise the youths on effects of drugs.
She said that many youths are blindly falling victim to drugs and need counselling and sensitisation.
The MCA said that the future of the youths in the area is blink if nothing will be done to curb drug abuse.
