Nakuru County Majority Leader Waithuke Njane has urged County governor Kinuthia Mbugua to institute reforms in the county's management to improve the rate of county's performance at devolved levels.

Speaking on Tuesday at Nakuru Town, Waithuke said that the county's management should be restructured, to enable it deliver to the expectations of the electorate.

Waithuke was responding to the recent World Bank report on devolved units on utilization of public funds.

The County was ranked among the poorest performing counties in the country, sparking public outcry.

However, the county defended itself by claiming that it had inherited debts from the defunct Nakuru Municipal Council, and most of the intended expenditure money went in clearing the huge debts, adding that more of the county's funds go into paying salaries for its huge work force.

Waithuke said that the county government should reshuffle its cabinet to improve service delivery.

“Any county's minister who performs below the required standards should be sacked and his docket replaced by energetic and focused civil servant,” said Waithuke.

He pointed that the county should deliver to the expectations of residents by utilizing at least 30 percent of its budget going to development issues.

“We want 30 percent of county's budget to go in provisions of water, healthcare and other development,” said Waithuke.

Meanwhile, Subuka MCA, Njoroge Muchiri has also joined the league of critics who are demanding  a critical change at the county's utilization of public funds.

Speaking on Monday at Subukia Trading Center, Njoroge called for transparency in the devolved units' funds.
