Thika Township MCA Kennedy Mwangi alias Kentams wants the once flourishing and attractive Christina Gardens at the heart of Thika Town restored.
Mwangi has asked the Kiambu County environment department to rehabilitate the gardens saying it was a shame that the garden has been abandoned despite being just opposite the Thika sub-county headquarters.
Speaking from his office at Gatitu on Tuesday, Mwangi said, "Christina Gardens is like the face of Thika Town. Every visitor who comes to this town will have to see it considering that it is just next to one of the main matatu stages and the sub-county headquarters," said Mwangi.
He added: "What kind of message does the county send to visitors who hear that Thika is a beautiful, pineapple town? Something must be done to rehabilitate it."
The MCA also noted that the garden together with that of Mama Ngina opposite Mathai Supermarket were the only resting and recreational grounds in the vast town yet both were unkempt and in deplorable condition.
"Mama Ngina garden is in much worse condition. Nothing that qualifies to make it a town garden remains. We need to have both gardens' glory restored as it was the case when Thika Town was a municipality," the MCA said.
