Mwangi said that he will ensure the flocked Thika streets are clear, as the disabled from different parts of East Africa including Tanzania and Zanzibar have come in large numbers, making the streets congested as they struggle to beg for help.

Mwangi has said that the disabled persons should be treated as other resident of Kiambu County, and that they should also be given better jobs and not harassed by the government.

The legislator said that the increase in their number has been brought by the harassing of the disabled persons by the county askaris in Kiambu town, thus running for their life to Thika town, where they are said to be reaping heavily.

He added that the residents of Thika should also take a step in helping the people living with disabilities, as they are part of the community instead of stigmatization that has influenced their begging in the streets, as most of their relatives force them  to the streets to beg for money.

“Let us treat them as our brothers and sisters as they are part of us. You do not have to chase anyone because he is born disabled in any way. Support them and they will do something for them also,” said Mwangi.

He called on the disabled people to get something they can do for themselves, as they are capable of doing anything despite the problems.
