Athi River Township MCA Michael Mutua has faulted reports from a local Television Station linking him to a public cemetery land scandal in Athi River town.
Addressing members of the public at Makadara Grounds in Athi River town on Saturday, Mutua said the reports were malicious arguing the allegations were neither here nor there.
"I strongly condemn the Friday 9.00pm news reports on NTV linking me with a grave yard land grabbing scandal in Athi River town," said Mutua.
He instead alleged that a local politician (Mavoko MP, Patrick Makau) stage-managed a protest on a private land on Friday to show that Athi River residents were furious with private investors and some local Mavoko and Machakos County leaders, who had allegedly grabbed a 10 acre parcel of land meant for grave yard at Kwa Mang'eli Estate within the town.
Mutua said that one of the sycophants of the said politician who was interviewed by the TV during the demonstrations at the scene implicated him with grabbing land meant for public utility for malicious reasons.
"The plot was well orchestrated with group of approximately 50 goons acting as if they were sub dividing the land while more than 100 others armed with crude weapons attacked them to appear as if they were two different groups," alleged Mutua.
The MCA claimed that those who stage managed the demonstrations were hired goons by Makau through supervision of part of the area Constituency Development Fund office's leadership as was seen in the clips aired by the TV to tarnish his name for cheap political mileage.
Mutua said that the land in question is a private property legally owned by three local investors who are well known to most of the residents in the region.
He called on the area MP to desist from inciting members of the public to evade private property arguing it was against the constitution and the country's supreme law to incite people.
MCA Mutua said those who feel aggrieved and believe it is a public land meant for public utility had constitutional right to follow right legal procedures to claim the land instead of taking law in their own hands.
He that as the Chairman of decentralised units and urban areas in Machakos County, he was well informed that there is no records either in the county government or defunct Mavoko Municipality that indicate that the land had either been reserved for cemetery or grave yard.
A senior officer in office of the area MP distanced himself with the skirmishes stating that the office was neither aware nor involved in the demonstrations.
Mutua said that as the crowned spokesperson of Mavoko residents, he would continue agitating for the rights of all including the less privilege in the community without fear of intimidation.
