Muthwani/ Magatani Ward MCA Domnic Ndonye has condemned what he termed as implementation of misplaced projects by the County Government of Machakos.
Addressing press in Magatani shopping centre on Saturday, Ndonye said the county leadership had failed due to lack of public engagement and consultation of members of county assembly by the executive while designing and deciding projects to be implemented in the county.
“The County Government of Machakos has failed due to poor leadership and lack of public and stakeholders consultations before implementing projects," said Ndonye.
Ndonye said most of the projects, which he argued were misplaced, have failed after being rejected by members of the public and various wards within the county in which they had been implemented.
He noted that the county's leadership had equally failed to engage members of the public through public participation as a constitutional right, so as to make proposals they wished to be given depending on the challenges they face and their needs.
“It is pointless to install CCTV cameras and plant flowers along Nairobi - Mombasa Highway while majority of wananchi are struggling to survive with high levels of poverty in Machakos County," said Ndonye.
He further said that the county government ought to have engaged the public to give priorities on projects that can change lives through jobs creation, food provision and creating permanent solution to water problem in the county.
He said he will continue to be in the fore front to mobilise his colleagues at the county assembly and push for impeachment of Governor Alfred Mutua, as a way of exercising their watchful role as MCAs as provided for in the constitution.
