Mitaboni MCA Leonard Ndolo has assured residents that the county government is in the process of streamlining the management of water projects in the county to ensure residents receive enough water both for domestic use and for their animals as well.

Speaking when he met local leaders on Thursday, Ndolo said it was a shame that some water officials were being accused of demanding cash before supplying water and asked all management committees to pull up their socks or loose their positions.

The MCA said the governor of Machakos County will always feel let down because despite his efforts to ensure provision of water to all county residents, some people were taking advantage of the materials the county government had distributed to all water projects to enrich themselves.

“Some of the water projects here in Kathiani were started immediately after the county government took over leadership and it is a shame that residents still do not get water. The projects have been issued with pipes and other materials but unscrupulous officials and workers are letting Governor Mutua down,” said Ndolo.

He said a management committee meeting set for early next week would hopefully address issues raised by members including illegal connections.

This comes after Kathiani residents called for an audit of the water projects in the area to curb corruption in the local water sector.

The residents claimed even though water projects had received pipes from the county government, water supply in the area was ineffective and faced with claims of corruption.

They said Mitaboni Ward had continued to suffer from acute water shortages amid claims that officials and employees of the projects enjoyed uninterrupted water flow in their farms and homes.
