He said that the exploitation has led to the rise of poverty level among the Gatundu farmers and said that he would table a motion in the County Assembly to stem the activities of brokers.

Speaking in Gatundu North during the Annual General Meeting of Nyamangara cooperative society, Kimani said that farmers should not be subjected to greedy brokers.

Kimani said that farmers should reverse their marketing system to eliminate the existence of exploitative brokers.

“Farmers should join cooperatives that will act as vehicles to market their produce,” said Kimani adding that that the move to join cooperatives was the only way that could help the farmers eliminate the presence of exploitative brokers from their markets.

“We cannot allow exploitative brokers to continue exploiting our farmers , we need to enact by- laws to limit the extents of greedy brokers,” said Kiamani, adding that they would wish for farmers to reap from their hard-earned labour.

Francis Kinyanyui, chairman of the cooperative society said that farmers have been exploited for a long time and time had come to weed the exploiters out.

Kinyanyui also urged farmers' cooperation to join in the battle against exploitative brokers and called the county government to help them financially to carry out irrigation projects to help them improve their livelihoods.
