Members of the Kisii county assembly have been accused of being too gullible on the obligations of oversight, representation and legislation.

Speaking at Bombaba-Borabu ward on Wednesday, area MCA Koina Onyancha accused his colleagues of failing to perform their duties by always siding with the county leadership even on matters pertaining oversight.

According to him, the county assembly has become a laughing stock since most of MCAs are convinced by powerful forces to stop questioning certain controversial bills.

“The work of MCAs is equivalent to that of MPs but I am afraid that most of us have forgotten the deal. They are now working hand in hand with the executive to block questioning of certain fishy deals that may lead to loss of funds,” he said.

Mr Onyancha said whereas he supported some of the bills that were being introduced in the county government by the government side, the county leadership should desist from using MCAs as a bridge to fulfill certain issues that are not development-oriented.

“I don’t want to talk much about what I have seen happening there but it’s important for the county leadership to desist from meddling with affairs of the assembly,” he said.

However, majority whip Henry Moracha denied the claims and urged Mr Onyancha to substantiate his claims before the floor of the house.

“I am shocked that a leader of that caliber can make unsubstantiated allegations. I challenge him to table the evidence in the house for discussion,” Moracha told HiviSasa.com.
