Ngewa ward MCA Karugo wa Thang’wa has decried to the county government of Kiambu for withholding Ngewa bursary cheques amounting to Kshs. 737,000.
According to the MCA, the bursary was to be disbursed by the Kiambu county governor William Kabogo when he visited the region where he allegedly disbursed other wards cheque but not Ngewa.
He said that it was the second time the county had withheld the bursary cheque even after both the young and old beneficiary came out in large number to collect them.
The MCA said that most of the students are still languishing at home without school fees and has urged the county government to recheck the issues since the people of Ngewa are in dire need for education.
“Our students are still languishing in the streets and homes thus the county government should check into the issue since Ngewa community are tired,” said the MCA
The legislator who was speaking on Thursday when he held a baraza in his ward said that on 25th of February, the governor summoned the Ngewa Bursary Committee to his office in Thika but the governor did not see the committee but instead allegedly referred them Education Chief Officer Ms Ann Gichohi.
Karugo has urged the county government to come out and help the Ngewa people since he is speaking on the behalf of the voiceless people.
“I speak not for myself but for those without voice, those who have fought for their rights, their right to live in peace, their right to be treated with dignity, their right to equality of opportunity, their right to be educated,” said Karugo.
