Gitothua Ward Representative Patrick Chege has defended Kiambu governor William Kabogo over claims that the governor is opposed to Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022.
On Tuesday the MCA said that those spreading the claims only want to tarnish the name of Kabogo and Kiambu County in general.
Mr Chege said that Kabogo is one of the Mt Kenya leaders who fully support DP Ruto.
“It is unfortunate for some people to be spreading rumors that Kabogo or Mt Kenya region is not in support of DP Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022,” said Chege on phone.
The Gitothua MCA urged politicians to stop smear campaigns as a strategy to win locals support.
He added that Mt Kenya region is fully behind DP Ruto’s candidature for 2022.
On Tuesday while meeting with Kikuyu council of elders, Kabogo said that he was misquoted.
He added that his statement on the matter was misinterpreted and that it was being used by his enemies to gain political significance.
Kabogo said that he fully supports Ruto adding that his working relations with President Uhuru Kenyatta and the DP is good.
The Kiambu Governor has been on the spot for the past one week after the statement he made in regards to DP Ruto’s presidential bid.
The Kiambu Governor was quoted last week allegedly saying that it was not automatic that the Mt Kenya region will support DP Ruto in 2022.
