The county government of Uasin Gishu has been asked to outline measures it has put in place to address the outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in some parts of the county.

Tulwet/Chuiyat MCA Julius Songok on Thursday demanded answers from the leader of the majority over the matter.

While seeking for the statement during the Assembly session, Songok who is also the Assembly's Agriculture Committee chairman expressed concerns that farmers risk incurring heavy losses should the county government fail to take swift action.

"This disease has caught many farmers by a surprise and rise to seek for a statement on the extent of the disease and actions the county through the department of Agriculture and Livestock is taking to contain it," noted Songok.

The leader of majority Josphat Lowoi could not give an instant response and requested that he be allowed to give a comprehensive statement over the matter next Thursday at 2.30PM.

Outbreak of foot and mouth disease has affected farmers mainly from Kesses sub county forcing major livestock markets to be closed down as the county government embarks of efforts to contain the disease from spreading to the neighbouring areas.
