A member of Uasin Gishu County Assembly has raised concerns over what he termed as laxity in solid waste management department in the county.
The Kipkenyo MCA Hillary Ronoh wondered why Eldoret town and nearby residential estates are full of hips of uncollected garbage yet the county had acquired several garbage collection trucks.
Speaking when he sought for an explanation from the leader of majority Josphat Lowoi, the MCA who chairs the Environment Committee claimed the county recently suspended casuals who were working in the garbage collection segment and demanded reasons why such action was taken.
“I request the leader of government business in this assembly provides a detailed explanation as to why there has been laxity in solid waste management department because I am told some of the casuals who were working in that area were recently suspended,” said Mr. Ronoh at the Assembly on Thursday.
“There are reports that garbage collection trucks have no fuel to facilitate their movement around the two, the leader of majority should also explain how this can be true yet we know solid waste management is one of the very key areas that we cant afford to ignore,” he added.
The leader of majority couldn't respond to the raised issues and sought for more time to provide a comprehensive information on the matter.
“I cannot respond to the statement right away but I ask that I be given more time to get in touch with relevant county officials so that I can get a comprehensive explanation over the matters raised,” Lowoi said.
He promised to give a detailed response on the first Thursday after the assembly resumes from a short recess.Ends
