Kisumu City management has been urged to consult with all stakeholders in Kisian for the better improvement of the market that lies along Kisumu-Busia road. South West Kisumu ward representative Joseph Abiola said the market needs proper planning owing to the construction of the road that is due to start. Abiola said the contractor, SBI, had measured the road and recommended that the market be removed to allow for the road construction. “We had sat down with traders at Kisian and they have agreed to move. The city management had also come in and agreed to relocate the traders,” he said. He said the city manager Doris Ombara should work with his office to ensure those who were affected are relocated in a proper manner. He accused the city manager of failing to work closely with his office but chose to work with the market chairman. “My worry is that the city manager has opted to work with other people in my ward by passing me. I am the representative of the people and I must be consulted,” he noted. Speaking to the press in Kisumu, Abiola said the city management has the powers to plan the market but as the people's representative, he deserves to be brought on board. “For the sake of peace and proper development let the city manager work with me and not the traders’ chairman. I won’t allow that,” he said.
