In an effort to enhance learning and good performance in Kikuyu ward, area MCA Binary Wainaina has issued text books to Kikuyu Township Primary School.

This comes a week after a parents-teachers meeting was held due to a drop in performance of the school in 2015 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

Among the major challenges addressed were scarcity of text books in the school for learning and also few teachers.

Wainaina Monday visited the school and donated 900 text books for all classes from Class one to eight.

Addressing the media in the school, Wainaina said that his move to donate the books was to enhance learning in the school.

He urged the county government to step up and facilitate such needs to boost learning and performance.

"I also want to urge other leaders not to wait for the county government to act on such issues but they can also dig into their pockets to help these schools. I call upon well wishers too to come to the aid of such schools and help where they can," said Wainaina.

The school's deputy headteacher Ms Elizabeth Wamemia said the school was thankful for the donation by the MCA.

"Our library is full of ancient books that are not of very much help in the syllabus we cover, we are grateful that we have books and this will boost our efforts towards excellence," she said.
