Nyalenda B Ward representative James Were has moved a motion in the county assembly of Kisumu to have village administrators employed.
Were argues that the constitution states that every county government shall decentralise its functions and provision of services to the extent that it is efficient.
He said the county government of Kisumu must now transfer governance and service delivery of responsibility to smaller governing units.
Were added that decentralisation will bring the government administrative functions and service delivery closer to the people.
He said the county assembly has the responsibility to enact a legislation to define the establishment of the village units.
Moving the motion before the house, Were said that public participation has been done in all the 35 wards on the village units.
He called upon the assembly to speedily pass the report and enact legislation to support the village units.
Were said the county public service board will only recruit the village administrators once the assembly has passed the required legislation.
However, the majority leader Samuel Ongou opposed the motion noting that it was premature to have been taken to the floor of the house.
Ongou said the report following the public participation must be tabled first before such a motion can be brought to the floor of the house.
He further announced that the county has a bloated workforce and might to employ more staff in the near future.
