A Nyamira County MCA was forced to prematurely cut short his speech on Tuesday following a hostile reception at a local burial ceremony when he attempted to champion for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambitions.

The funeral at Machuririati almost turned chaotic as Gesima MCA Ken Atuti, who was elected on a URP ticket tried to convince residents to support Jubilee Party in 2017 and 2022 polls, as he slammed opposition Cord for being anti development.

Atuti who later on spoke to this writer defended his move to lead the Nyamira delegation to Ruto’s Sugoi home alongside a host of leaders from Kisii County saying it was for well-being of area residents.

“I will always say the truth no matter what they say. Our region has been sidelined due to primitive politics of opposing the government of the day all the times. I had to attend the meeting and it was for the good of our county. I strongly support the DP and I will always try to reach as many people as I can even if it’s tough,” he said.

According to him, the DP had promised to ensure three major roads in the region are expeditiously completed before the 2017 polls.

“From the meeting, the Nyamira delegation bargained successfully for Metamaywa-Kebirigo, Kemera-Magambo and Chabera-Chepilat roads which have taken long to be completed because most of our MPs are not willing to work with the day’s government for the sake of development,” he said.

Atuti said he was confident that Jubilee leaders will be reelected in 2017 despite stiff competition from Cord.

“I know in a few months’ time, they will not jeer the government as they did today anymore because there is more lined up to improve their livelihood. I am confident that as Jubilee, we will still form government in 2017,” he said.
