Muvuti/Kiima Kimwe Ward MCA Timothy Kilonzo has given road and transport department a ten-day ultimatum to put up bumps along several road areas where accidents cases have become a norm.
Speaking to the press on Friday in Muvuti location, Kilonzo stated that lack of safety bumps is causing daily loss of lives in sections of Machakos-Kitui road, especially at the Mwanyani and Kaseve areas, and the second road from Machakos-Wote near Katoloni market.
“We are losing school children, pedestrians and bodaboda operators in Mwanyani and Katoloni areas in avoidable situations. We have complained to the department in charge but no response yet,” said Kilonzo.
Kilonzo further threatened that together with the residents, they have given a deadline of ten days, after which if no actions would have been taken, he will lead the residents in a peaceful demonstration.
“We have issued a ten-day notice to the County Roads and Transport ministry, and if they will not have fixed the bumps, we will go on a demonstration and close all the sections of the respective roads,” he added.
Kilonzo however urged the residents to avail themselves when needed by the government to assist during the construction of the bumps.
