The opposition through Siaya Senator James Orengo on Tuesday accused the police of using extra forces and allegedly killing over six anti-IEBC protesters and vowed to instigate criminal proceedings against them and Mr Kiraithe whom they accused of spreading falsehood on an alleged coup.

Apoko, on Wednesday, said the move shows Cord respects the rule of law and urged the government to use legal mechanisms in dealing with issues involving citizens.

“I want to thank my coalition Cord for being objective by following the rule of law. Instigating criminal offences against officers who shot our unarmed demonstrators and also bringing to book the government spokesperson is an indication that we are a law-abiding political coalition,” he said.

“Time has come for the government to also use logic and respect the rule of law. When the constitution guarantees ordinary people certain rights, it's poor manners to infringe them. It was a right decision and hope the court shall compensate fully the families of the deceased,” he added.

He also vowed to lead peaceful protest over the IEBC and slammed Tuesday’s government directive that banned the demonstrations.

“I am ready to lead the peaceful demonstrations over IEBC. We have a right in the constitution and the courts ordered so. The government cannot intimidate us,” he added.
