Thika Township Ward MCA Kennedy Mwangi Kentams led the residents of Kiandutu slums on Monday morning in the re-registering for the new National Identity cards and replacement of lost cards.
Mwangi said that most of the area residents never voted in the last general elections due to lack of ID cards adding that he is ready to create awareness to all of the voters to register with Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) in time as he will be asking for their votes again in 2017 with the new party.
He said that it is very important for people to get Identification cards not only for voting purposes, but also to benefit from other grants like qualifying for Women and Uwezo Funds stating that his office and other legislators’ offices never give out funds to people without National IDs and voters’ cards.
He urged youths in the area to ensure they are registered for the cards and the party membership immediately they attain 18 years as a way of ensuring the supremacy of the party in the area and also giving him assurance that his people are ready to vote him again.
Mwangi added that the area has been lagging behind in developments considering that they have never produced a leader except last general election where the former slums resident was voted for in massive.
“We have woken up when it is too late and that is why other Wards around are developed than ours, but we will match them soon if we unite and work together as a team,” said Mwangi.
He called on the residents to unite in this hardship time in Kiambu County and turn a deaf ear to any inciter who approaches them.
