West Mugirango MP James Gesami should fight hard for the ODM ticket if he is serious in ousting Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, County Assembly Majority Whip Peter Maroro has said.
Gesami who also chairs the ODM party in Nyamira is facing a tough test following a cordial relationship between Nyagarama and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
And the Manga MCA on Saturday said Gesami should ‘worry’ about the cordial relationship between Nyagarama and Raila given that the county is purely an ODM zone.
“Nyamira is an ODM zone and whoever gets the ODM ticket is likely to be the next Governor. Nyagarama initially was supporting Jubilee government but of late I am seeing him attending mega events with the party leader,” he said.
“I know Raila doesn’t issue tickets but that is likely to have a positive impact on party supporters. That is a fact and Gesami should worry about it despite being our county chair. He must also be part of the ODM events countrywide,” he said.
But on Friday, Gesami had indicated that it’s the ODM supporters who will decide their flag-bearer in the 2017 polls.
“ODM will hold free and fair nominations and I am hopeful that I will be the flag bearer. No one should worry that someone will be issued with a direct ticket,” he said.
Nyagarama has accompanied the Cord leader to mega campaign rallies with the recent one being in Narok County on Friday.
