Naivasha East Member of County assembly Waithuki Njune has distanced himself from leaders who are in support of installation of power windmills in the area.
Speaking to journalist in Nakuru on Friday, Waithuki said that despite the Kingangop Member of Parliament Stephen Mburu supporting the project, it should not be taken to mean that all the leaders are in support of the project.
''As a representative of people in Naivasha East ward I am aware that the locals are not in support of this project and not even mass influence will make me change my stand,” said the Nakuru County assembly majority leader.
He further added that there is no agreement that has been signed between the leaders and residents supporting the project.
''This project is going to have a negative environmental impact to the residents but if the majority people of Naivasha East declare that they are supporting this project then i will have no choice but to adhere but as for now its a no,” added Waithuki firmly.
The plan is part of the many projects which have been initiated by Geothermal Development Company (GDC) as one way of mitigating the problem of power shortages in the country.
