Nurses in Igegania Sub-district Hospital have lamented over the severe shortage of medical personnel at their centre.
Speaking in a seminar at Igegania main hall over the weekend, the sub district superintendent Anthony Njoroge revealed that they require at least 300 new medical staff annually.
“In relation to the growing population, Igegania Sub district Hospital needs an input of 300 new medical personnel annually. However, we have not had any new employees in the last two years and all we are getting is a replacement for those who have died or have left. This is really stretching our productivity,” said Dr Njoroge.
Njoroge lamented over the government’s move to spend money in putting up facilities, but failing to undertake adequate staffing.
“We have facilities that were put up within this institution but the staff we have cannot even accommodate the equipment we have,” lamented Njoroge
“Petition your respective MCAs to bring a motion on the floor of the house so that the law on funds can be changed. Funds should not only be set aside for buildings, but also for staffing,” added Njoroge.
Area MCA Michael Mugo assured the medical personnel his full support, and pledged to induce a motion in the county assembly to improve medical personnel in the hospital.
“I pledge my full support to you, I will also introduce a motion of medical personnel increment in this institution,” said Mugo.
