Hundreds of Athi River Township ward residents on Sunday attended a Cultural Day meant to promote and celebrate their customs alongside enhancing peaceful coexistence.

The Area MCA, Michael Mutua, said the annual event was intended to promote cohesion and integration among the residents who are of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Mutua who addressed the press at SunRise Teachers College in Athi River Town during the event said those who attended and participated included local youth, students from various schools and higher learning institutions around the town and members of the public.

It is the high time parents and teachers work hard in ensuring that children know and learn their culture, traditions, customs and ethnic identities," he said.

Mutua urged the residents to learn to embrace one another and appreciate the diversity of each other's cultures and traditions saying none (culture) was superior to the other.

"We, as a people need to promote our cultural diversity for those who desert their traditions and cultures are slaves of themselves," said Mutua.

The residents who attended the event enjoyed presentations which included songs, poems, narratives, dances and food from presenters from the various communities
