Youth from Bogichora ward in Nyamira County have reasons to smile after area MCA on Sunday promised to pay for their dowry if any of them ever does a church wedding.
Beatah Omanga challenged the Mokomoni SDA church youth to engage in civilized marriages and shift the paradigm from the much preferred ‘come we stay’ that has been popular among the current generation.
“Time has come for us to view marriage as a sacred gift from God. We should avoid the come we stay thing and embrace church marriages. This is the only gift I can give you today,” he said.
Omanga said church weddings were long-term and viable since couples could embrace each other even in the time of troubles.
“The good thing about church marriages is that it encourages commitment from either party. It is long term and gives solutions to many problems you may go through,” he added.
He said he will support youths who call for church marriages by paying their dowry besides catering for other arrangement expenses.
“Am now ready to pay dowry for any youth who will propose a church wedding. I will also reduce the burden of expenses incurred during arrangements,” said the youthful MCA.
According to him civilized marriages reduces incidents of constant squabbles among the young couples that would lead to the rampant wife battering in the country.
“We will be able to reduce significantly cases of women battering if we embrace these marriages. They are solutions to us youths,” he concluded.
