A Kisii county MCA has vowed to mobilize other members to push for more county bursary money to be given to each ward to help needy and bright students in the county.

Bomariba ward MCA Portus Moindi on Friday speaking at Water Park Hotel in Kisii said each ward has been allocated Sh3 million as a bursary.

The former leader of the majority in the assembly said the money is less because the demand is too high.

“We have more students joining secondary and others joining colleges and universities. Sh3 million issued to each ward in the county won’t meet the demand. As assembly members, we will push for more funds to be allocated as a bursary to help needy and bright students go to schools,” he said.

Moindi said the county said education will be given top priority but the allocation of fewer funds to support families that are unable to raise fees tells how the county is unprepared to boost education.

“We can’t say we want to boost education yet we are given too little money to use as a bursary. At least each student should be given a minimum of Sh5,000 as bursary and not Sh1,000 – 2,500,” he stated.

He said he will table a motion in the assembly to push for more bursary funds to be allocated.
