Speaking on Friday to the media in Nakuru Town, Kiru said that youth forms an important segment of the population, and their role in the development of the county can not be overruled.

“I urge Tanui to increase youth allocation because the current allocation can’t sustain the huge population of youth,” said Kiru, adding that this segment should be acknowledged because it’s a part of and parcel of society.

She noted that the current huge population of youth can be sustained by providing more resources to start businesses.

“The education sector is shunning more youth and there is need for more resources to be set aside to ensure that they start their enterprises,” said Kiru.

Kiru also accused the procurement department for sidelining youth in the issuance of tenders.

“Most tenders are going to established firms associated with politicians, leaving youth with no prospects of getting any, we want the county government to be transparent in issuance of tenders to ensure the youth also benefit,” said Kiru.

She however urged youth to step up their efforts in contributing to the economy of the county without over dependency of the county government.
