A Nakuru County Assembly member has warned corrupt police officers that they risk losing their jobs for abetting crime and corruption.
Nakuru East Ward representative James Mwaniki, while addressing residents at White House estate, said that the newly passed Drugs and Drinks 2014 Bill gives the ordinary mwananchi direct policing authority against illegal alcohol and other linked crimes.
Mwaniki told wananchi to be aware of the new law as it was meant to boost war on insecurity in the county that was linked to alcoholic drinks. He advised them to be on the lookout for police officers who raid illegal alcohol selling and brewing joints with an intention of receiving bribes.
He said: “We have not been able to solve problems of illegal brews and other crimes related to alcohol because some police officers get bribes from the perpetrators. Let them know that we are in full control now that the assembly has passed the Alcohol and Drinks law.”
“I urge wananchi to be on the lookout and help the government take action against them,” added the MCA.
The law gives members of the public powers to investigate and append their signatures to force the government to either sack or transfer police officers or other law enforcers who fail to take action against illegal brew dealers.
