Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Esther Njeri Magere has raised a red flag over increased defilement cases in Ng’ondu area in Naivasha.
Magere cited that majority of young girls who were defiled from the area ended up having Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
“The cases where parents forcefully sleep with their children and infect them with STDs in this area is now worrying. This has been a major problem here and most of the children have been forced to drop out of schools due to stigmatisation or unwanted pregnancies resulting from these rape cases,” said Magere.
She also pointed out that majority of the parents in the area ignored their parental responsibilities and duties by unnecessary trips to Narok leaving the young kids alone, making them vulnerable to the criminals.
“In many homes, young girls aged between seven and 13 are left to be in-charge of their houses as their parents take vegetables to Narok. When they are not around, the children become susceptible to some evil men moving around there,” said Magere.
Magere called on more stakeholders’ involvement in the fight against defilement and rape in the country.
“Our major issue is that most of the victims do not agree to speak out about the issue. They hide behind a cocoon and this breeds a major problem especially in court cases,” added Magere.
