Kamenu Ward MCA Mary Hussein has revealed that Kiambu County government will soon set up a youth polytechnic in the area to cater for youths who will not have the privilege to go to secondary schools.
Hussein was speaking in her office in Kamenu where she said that the county government has noted that not all the children who completed their primary school education will go to high school due to financial challenges, and even those who just completed their secondary school education and thus have decided to help in acquiring a skill for their development
She said that the county assembly has passed a motion to build a polytechnic in all Kiambu County Wards citing that Kamenu Ward polytechnic is in the process of being procured. She said that they have already acquired a plot of land for the proposed institution in Kiganjo area and construction will start soon.
She said that she will propose a premise to be rented to host the polytechnic before the buildings are constructed as soon as they resume in the County Assembly next week. She said that she is optimistic in helping the youth and children in the area since they constitute the productive generation.
“I am sure the polytechnic will help the area residents and the youth to stop engaging themselves in criminal activities and also help the children who do not get a chance to go to post primary schools get a second chance by acquiring skills to help them develop themselves and the society at large,” said the MCA.
Hussein further said that the county government has said that most of the youth who engage in criminal activities do that just because they see themselves as hopeless and also lack of skills to help them do something constructive in life.
