Women from the Gusii community have been challenged to acquire national Identity Cards to enable them participate in elections.
Nominated MCA Josephine Ombati reminded women that having them locked out of the democratic electoral process in the country will deny them the opportunity to elect leaders who will champion for their rights and development agenda.
Speaking on Wednesday at Keumbu market in Nyaribari Chache sub-county, Ombati regretted that despite their numerical strength, majority of the women from the region lacked national IDs which is a requirement for them to register as voters and participate in the country's electoral process.
Ombati encouraged young women who are newly married to take a step and acquire national IDs to ensure they exercise their democratic right of choosing their leaders in the forthcoming and subsequent general elections.
"I am challenging women from this community who have reached eighteen years to come out and acquire national IDs for them to participate in the forthcoming elections since without IDs they cannot be eligible for voter registration," stated Ombati.
