A member of Kisii County Assembly had to literally run for his safety following unprecedented hostility by a section of disgruntled electorates.
Trouble began when Albert Oino attended a funeral ceremony in his backyard Chitago-Borabu ward on Wednesday only to meet angry residents who questioned his development record in the region.
According to an eyewitness, Oino popularly known as 'Mwanakendra' was accused of neglecting the region by failing to meet his obligations.
“The ground was hostile and he had to run for his safety. Angry youths almost lynched him accusing him of neglecting the region in development,” said Julius Ochoki who witnessed the drama.
“They questioned poor roads, underequipped health facilities, water and unemployment in the region but the MCA’s answers were underwhelming," said Ochoki.
Oino has since accused his opponents of orchestrating the plan to humiliate him and vowed to ‘teach’ them a lifetime lesson.
“I am a man of the people. The accusations were unwarranted because the county government of Kisii through my effort has done a number of roads and health centers," said Oino.
"That was just a political scheme by some of my opponents to humiliate me,” he said.
“I will teach them a political lesson if they think that they understand politics. I have used the ward development kitty prudently and it’s my wish that police should investigate the incident and punish those who threw stones,” he added.
