20 children from Bobaracho ward in Kisii County, who scored 360 marks and above in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), have received Sh60,000 courtesy of the area MCA Ibrahim Ongubo and other stakeholders’ initiative.
Speaking while disbursing the fund, Ongubo clarified that the subsidy was meant to encourage children to excel academically and also to support children from humble backgrounds.
The 20 last year’s KCPE Candidates have received a financial boost prior to their joining form one today. However, they are still looking forward to benefiting from academic financial institutions including government’s Community Development Fund among others.
“I will strive to better the roads and address the problem of infrastructure which is the major challenge that undermines the education sector in our ward,” said Ongubo.
Parents and teachers who accompanied the children commended the MCA and assured him of their cooperation to uplift the wanting education standards in the ward.
Representing Nyamage primary school, Abed Maseno, a teacher, called for support and implementation of the ‘visionary’ initiatives for the people of Bobaracho ward.
Kisii Campus primary deputy headteacher, Mellen Rosana expressed concern that for the last 11 years, the school had not benefited from the National Government Constituency Fund petitioning the MCA to intervene.
