Speaking while issuing cheques to some of the beneficiaries Ibeno, ward representative Alfred Makori said the bursary courtesy of the Ward Development Fund kitty will benefit 32 needy students who scored a mean grade of a C plain and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education between 2013 and now to further their education.

“This is the first batch that will benefit from the programme. During the vetting exercise we realised 72 needy cases but due to inadequate funds only half of them will benefit in this financial year,” he said.

The MCA said he will strive to pump in more into the program in the 2015/2016 financial year in order to sponsor more needy students in the ward and ensure the beneficiaries complete their studies without interruption.

According to the MCA, the sponsorship will benefit students undertaking certificate, diploma and degree programs in universities within Kisii County.

He said the fund will be a great relief to parents who have been struggling to educate their children as they will now be required to only provide the basic needs.

He challenged residents of the ward to invest in their children’s education saying that is the best inheritance they can leave them with.

“Each qualification one attains should be a motivation for a high one. You should not just graduate with a bachelor’s degree and make that an end. Let it be the beginning for more degrees as it is happening in other parts of the country,” he advised.
