The MCA's call comes amid claims that the county government has not paid the workers, especially those in Naivasha sub-county, their salaries for the past six months.

Speaking on the phone on Wednesday, Wanango said it is saddening for the county government to hoard salaries of the labourers at the sub-county for six months.

He explained that the county has funds which have not been used and are lying idle at the bank and will be returned to the national Treasury as 2015-16 edges to a closure.

“Sh50 million had been set aside for the construction of a road adjacent to the county assembly but it turned out that it is a national government function so the funds were not used. They are the bank and we are demanding that these workers be paid immediately because if the money is not used, it will be returned to the treasury,” he said.

Wanyoike, who is the county assembly Implementation Committee chair, said the county government should make arrangements on how to pay the casual workers in good time.

Last year, a section of other casual workers from Nakuru complained about the delay in their salaries.
