Youths from Kathiani in Machakos County have been advised to venture into Income Generating Activities (IGAs) so as to shun drugs and idleness.
Kathiani MCA Fredrick Muthoka told the youths to form groups to enable them access loans from financial institutions and the government.
“Young people have a role to play in economic development of the country, the youthful generation can determine the direction the economy of the country will take," Muthoka said.
He addressed the press in his ward on Sunday.
Muthoka said youths are entitled to 30% tenders in both the county and national governments hence need to do their best to acquire them.
He disclosed that some of the youths from the region had gone astray by engaging in criminal activities.
Muthoka said it was sad that many criminals gunned down are young people who have a bright future ahead of them.
He urged parents to take their responsibilities seriously and uprightly raise their children.
Muthoka said parents should set good examples to their children.
