Members of the County Assembly in Nakuru will oversee the registration and distribution of cash transfer funds meant to benefit elderly people. This has been suggested by Menengai MCA Michael Macharia whose area of jurisdiction has been gripped BY scandals involving the distribution of the government fund. While addressing members of the public at Mariakani trading centre in Teachers estate during a meet-the-people tour yesterday evening, the MCA said that he would rally his colleagues to support a motion that he intends to introduce in the assembly soon. Macharia observed that many elderly people not only in his area but in many parts of the county and country were not benefiting from the cash transfer programme because of corruption by the central government officials who are mandated to manage the programme. “We are suggesting that County Representatives be in charge of the cash transfer programme. We are at the grassroots and know our people better. Many of our elderly people don’t benefit from this programme because they are shortchanged," he said. The MCA added that he has a list of people in his area who are entitled to benefit from the programme but very few have in the past benefited. He also observed that those who benefit receive very little money than required.
